Sliding Head CNC Setter (Turning)

Cambion Electronics are looking for an experienced CNC Setter to join the team at our beautiful Peak District location – an easy commute from Sheffield.

Cambion Electronics are a high-end, AS 9100-accredited, precision manufacturer with substantial track record in aerospace, military, industrial, medical, petrochemical, instrumentation and industrial markets. Customer quality is at the heart of everything we do.

We are looking to recruit a skilled CNC Turner / Setter to set and operate Citizen and Star sliding head lathes. Experience in sliding head setting is essential. Fanuc programming would be advantageous.

Main Duties:

As part of a great team, you will understand production plans, work with limited supervision and follow production & quality procedures to deliver exceptional quality turned-based parts to our worldwide customer base.

You will be required to:

  • Produce a high-quality product by setting and performing machine operations using CNC sliding head machines (Citizen and Star) ensuring quality workmanship at all times.
  • Turning of ferrous and non-ferrous materials and plastics.
  • Inspect components to fine BS tolerances using specialist equipment to check the manufactured component to the technical drawing.
  • Maintain and improve productivity, work in line with company procedures and machine capability to ensure production deadlines are met.
  • Maintain set-up sheets and production documentation, in line with company procedure.
  • Problem-solve using root cause analysis and corrective action.
  • Ensure work area is kept clean and tidy at all times by keeping machine and all associated tools and equipment in a clean and tidy manner.
  • Work within a safe environment by ensuring all company procedures and Health & Safety legislation is followed at all times.

Working Hours:

9.30am to 6pm, Monday to Friday (early 1pm finish on Friday).

Required Skills and Experience:

  • CNC Sliding Head setting experience using Star and / or Citizen. (Additional training will be provided).
  • Ability to self-inspect and work to tight tolerances.
  • Edit programs using Fanuc controls, programming is desirable but not essential as full training will be provided.
  • Ability to operate more than one machine at a time
  • Statistical Process Control (SPC)
  • Motivated with a ‘can do’ attitude

Please Note: The Setter role can be physically demanding. You will need to be comfortable with the following:

  • The job requires the CNC Setter to be mainly standing throughout the day (apart from break times).
  • Lifting and loading rod.
  • Lifting and slinging.
  • General machine maintenance.

Training Opportunities:

We support candidates to achieve level 2 and 3 and degree qualifications in Engineering and Manufacturing, offered at the AMRC global centre of excellence training centre (University of Sheffield).

Assembly Operators

The roles

We have exciting opportunities for the right people to join our busy manufacturing team in Castleton. The successful candidates will be required to assemble our high-quality electronic products and help us strive towards the goal as a world class manufacturing company.

You will be required to assemble very small and fiddly electronics parts in large volumes and therefore attention to detail and dexterity is required.

Experience is not essential as full training will be given but someone who has worked in a similar environment where you are assembling parts to specific time and quality standards would be useful.

These positions are full time and permanent and we are looking for motivated people to join our production team.

Plant Operator

The Role

We are looking to recruit an Operator to work in our factory cleaning / wash plant and ensure the highest quality cleaning standards of all our components.

Cambion Electronics Ltd manufacture millions of precision electronic components including connectors and inductors each year at our factory in the Hope Valley, Derbyshire. Our customers are global and include Military, Aerospace, Medical and Industrial sectors where demand for superior product is a must.

Working as part of the ASM team, you will work closely with the Leading Hand and Setters/Operators to ensure the smooth flow of parts through the cleaning / wash plant on a daily basis.

This will include using centrifugal spinners, riddles and air-lines to separate swarf, wash plant, annealing oven and measuring scales.

This role does require manual handling and the Operator will be on their feet for a large amount of time.

You:

    • Work methodically to meet customer timescales

    • Be able to keep accurate records

    • Adhere to Health and Safety procedures

We are looking for individuals who are happy to work with minimal supervision (once full training is completed) who may have an understanding of working in a factory environment already. It is also a great opportunity for someone who is looking to embark on a career in mechanical/engineering/CNC setting/operating. NVQ’s and engineering qualifications are available for the right individual in time.

As part of the selection process there will be a simple numerical and literacy test.

Quality Engineer

We are looking to recruit a meticulous Quality Engineer. The role would suit a Manufacturing Quality Engineer looking for their next challenge. 

The successful QE candidate will be ‘hands on’ and work across the quality, production and engineering department to develop processes, test procedures and implement quality systems that ensure turned piece-based parts and components fulfil quality standards, meet safety, legal & regulatory compliance and satisfy customer expectations.

Working hours:

Monday to Thursday 8:30am-5pm, Friday 8:30am-1pm.

As a Quality Engineer, you will:

    • Control the quality of the entire product and supply chain life cycle.

    • Coordinate and conduct quality inspections. 

    • Complete internal - external audits to support ongoing audit programme 

    • Work closely with production to ensure turned-based parts and components are produced according to product specification, dovetailing with CI Lead.

    • Plan, lead and execute quality investigation as required using problem solving tools and techniques e.g.: 8D, Ishikawa, 5 Why’s, to effectively analyse problem root cause and implement effective corrective actions. 

    • Create and implement QA/QC processes and drive compliance and maintain certification.

    • Create and complete First Article Inspection (FAI) documentation compiling to AS9102 standards.

To be successful in this role you will have:

    • Previous experience in a similar Quality Engineer role in a manufacturing environment (ideally electronics/engineering).

    • Experience of plating finish inspection advantageous.

    • Experience of leading audits.

    • Practical experience of problem solving (8D ideally), FMEAs corrective and preventative actions.

    • Knowledge of ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and EN9100.

    • Ability to build long term successful working relationship across all departments.

    • Analytical / critical thinking / problem solving skills.

    • Excellent communication skills and attention to detail.

    • Good IT skills, especially in Microsoft Word and Excel, including accomplished report writing skills.

    • Ability to act in a timely manner.

    • Full UK driving licence.
